David is a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. He holds a graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University, Sacramento—one of the leading institutions in research and clinical training in the field.

David completed his Doctoral Examination using Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). His research interests include mediators consistently accompanying change, therapeutic and pathogenic paradox, session-specific change episodes within emotionally focused couples therapy, the development of new and novel treatments/techniques, and advanced brief strategic therapy.

David completed his Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) examining explanatory factors associated with successful, session-level advanced brief strategic paradoxical intervention. He is passionate about translating research into practical results.

Along with research and private practice, David manages a team of after-hours mental health workers at two emergency departments within Placer County for Sierra Mental Wellness Group. He has designed and implemented Sierra’s Continuing Education division including accreditation as a California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) approved continuing education provider. He is responsible for developing cutting-edge training and tools which he delivers across Sierra’s interagency divisions.

David is a nationally certified trainer in Assessing and Managing Suicidal Risk (AMSR), an evidence-based protocol for assessing suicidal risk developed by The Suicide Prevention Resource Center and The American Association of Suicidology. He has also completed the Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy externship toward certification.

Throughout his years of clinical practice, David has successfully treated numerous presenting problems including couples problems, parent/child relational struggles, profound worry, low self-esteem, destructive habits, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and treatment-resistant depression.

David custom tailors unique, yet scientifically sound interventions that are unique client circumstance. He believes the overarching goal of therapy is to inspire lasting change to enjoy more of life.

David is a third generation native of California. He enjoys paddle boarding; traveling; and studying exotic animals within safe, humane settings. David has closely interacted with tigers, baby bears, bobcats, a tribe of long-tailed macaque monkeys, elephants, and sloths. His travels have taken him throughout Europe, Japan, and Thailand.

Some say it’s David’s bespoke blend of therapy that separates him from others, but ultimately it’s his connection with people that makes for a genuinely memorable experience.

Long walks on the beach are great, but you’re more likely to find David kayaking in Tahoe or observing young chimpanzees in their naturalistic habitat.
